On 11 June 2025, Kolej Komuniti Gerik successfully conducted a full-day hands-on workshop entitled “AI Integration in Module Development and Research.” The session was conducted online and facilitated by Ts. Dr. Suhailah Binti Mohamed Noor, a Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Penang Branch, and founder of Prompt Academy.
The workshop was designed to introduce and empower educators with the foundational knowledge and practical skills to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) in educational and research contexts. Throughout the session, participants were guided through AI literacy fundamentals, effective prompt writing techniques, and real-time demonstrations of AI tools such as ChatGPT and SciSpace for educational content creation and research support.
Dr Suhailah’s hands-on approach captured participants’ attention and encouraged active engagement. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees highlighting the workshop’s relevance and immediate applicability to their academic work. Real examples, live demonstrations, and the emphasis on AI-aware thinking and responsible use made the session not only insightful but also ethically grounded.
The workshop concluded with a collaborative reflection session and calls for further AI literacy initiatives within the institution. The success of this program clearly demonstrates the growing need for professional development focused on responsible AI adoption in teaching and research. Kolej Komuniti Gerik has taken a commendable step forward in preparing its academic staff for the evolving landscape of higher education in the age of AI.
